Turning the computer on
To begin turn the power on at the mains. Now locate the power button on your computer, usually shown by a circle with a line down the middle from the top. Press it.
Wait while your computer boots
The next stage is where your computer boots up, this stage involves the computer checking hardware connected within the computer to see if anything new has been added or anything removed. No input is required on your behalf at this stage.
Operating System loads
After the computer has checked for hardware changes it will begin loading your installed operating system, this tutorial covers Windows so it should now start loading.
Shutting the computer down
To shutdown the computer go to the Start button (bottom left) and click once with the left mouse button, move the cursor with your mouse up to Turn off computer then click once with the left mouse button, move the mouse to Turn off and click once with the left mouse button. The computer will now start to shutdown, wait while the computer has turned it's self off, then you can turn the power off at the mains.
